Pick one of your weaknesses and imagine it as a strength.

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for June 28, 2007:
Weakness: Taking a lot of things personally (someone not smiling back at me, one too many days of cold weather in summer) that I shouldn't.
When I imagine it as a strength, I think it helps me be aware of people and things around me. If I didn't notice them, I wouldn't take it personally. Hence, I must notice a lot of things I'd otherwise ignore.
I read the other day that people who take irrational things personally and get angry about it (traffic, slow people in front of you, that kind of thing) do so as a way of giving meaning and order in a chaotic world.
As in, the reason the bus is an hour late is that the world decided you deserved a crappy day, as opposed to life just being random, without any concept of "fair". Yep, sounds about right.
